Speaking Opportunities

Zack has had the opportunity to speak at a few places- all different situations. His little sister's Girl Scout troop, a Q&A's interview at a monthly business meeting, a 5th grade classroom, demonstration with his service dog Sedona (These 3 pictured below) Not pictured were an all girls HS group learning how to help others and put on events, Elks lodge in Orange who have been very supportive since the beginning. The biggest event was The Goodwills 90th Gala Fundraiser
(hosted by the Beach Boys & John Stamos)

When Zack was still newly injured and was asked if he was interested in speaking it was a firm No Way. How far he has come! Telling his personal story gives awareness about the dangers of the ocean, and how life can change in an instant. Most important is that you have a choice on how to handle life when it Does get hard.

Great job Zack!

Zack Turns 21

Zack turned 21 in August. Guess where he went? Yep, Vegas!

We booked 2 rooms one for family one for Zack and friends. Best of both worlds.

Happy Birthday Zack!

5 Years after Injury

Zack was injured 5 years this past May 31st I've heard myself repeatedly saying how fast time goes by. With Zack's injury it has the same odd feeling, on one hand it seems like yesterday I received "the news" on the other hand it feels like a life time ago Zack was a able bodied person.

So much Life has happened in 5 years. Both Good and Bad. Zack has continued to live by example his word Persevere. Zack is now in his 3rd year of college, living on campus with a part time caregiver and service dog (Sedona) He continues to do physical therapy to keep his body strong.

The picture below is Zack in Lake Arrowhead Ca. this summer.

Zack's New Van

A Long over due but Huge THANK YOU!! To all who donated and made possible getting this wheelchair friendly van for Zack. I tried posting after the fundraiser but the site was down for awhile and life got away from me.

The pictures show Zack (and Sedona) in the van that was purchased, private party from the donations at last years St. Patty's Day Fundraiser. It's extremely nice to have a dependable van. We are humbled by the generosity of others. Thank you again!

We're Not Alone

Wow 2015!

The holidays have come and gone since my last post, I was reminded today that it's been awhile (Thanks Howard!).

Zack and I have formed friendships with other families who have gone through the same type of life altering injury. The photos below show Zack with other guys (around his age) who have also endured life changing accidents that left them paralyzed.

One boy was injured at Newport Beach, 42nd St. (same place as Zack) 3-years earlier! Another was injured at Crystal Cove Beach "Memorial weekend" (same as Zack) one year later. One was also just 15-years old (like Zack) when injured. Another is the oldest child with (3) younger siblings (yep, like Zack).

They all have different things in common. All these boys (young men!) are Amazing! Each has their own story of how they lost so much in an instant, yet fought, adapted, kept positive attitudes, and have been such a source of inspiration to So many. I wish they all lived closer to each other but we at least get to see them either at physical therapy, our annual Christmas get together, Fundraisers, or Summer BBQ.
I am Blessed with 6 other moms who have, and are, my biggest support system. I am So grateful for each one of them! They are my sounding board, advice givers, friends, supporters and Amazing moms! Otherwise known as
"the Quadmoms."

Zack and I are Not Alone.

4 Years

This week marks the 4th year Zack has lived his life as a quadriplegic. I've said this over and over and will continue to say it, Zack is Awesome! He continues to make the best out of his situation. He just completed his freshman year of college even getting a A in Math (his hardest subject). Zack would still like to move onto campus in the fall, God willing we find caregiver coverage and workout all details involved in that. Zack is staying strong, working out 3 days a week to keep his body healthy. We continue to make small and large goals, at the same time learning to enjoy the present. Life does not slow down for anyone, you have to grab the moments. The picture of Zack at the beach was taken in Santa Monica this month at a Life Rolls on event. Where paralyzed people can surf with the help of wonderful volunteers. Very Proud of you Zack! Love, mom

Return from Redding

Did Zack get physically healed in Redding at Bethel church? No.
Are we discouraged? No.
God is working in our family and we are excited to see what He has for us. We believe God knows best. Zack's attitude has been amazing since the day he was injured. I know that's not the end of the story. We plan on returning to Redding in the spring...

Healing Prayer

Zack, Adron and Levi will be driving to Redding, CA this Thursday, Jan16th-20th. Adron has a strong leading to take Zack up to Bethel Church. The sole purpose for this trip is to receive healing prayer. Zack has been paralyzed since Memorial Day 2010 - since then we have tried medical and
therapy related options we know of with limited results. We believe God heals people today - we are not at all entitled to have God heal Zack, we just want to ask and see if He will. Please pray with us over this next week for our protection and for us to encounter God on a personal level.

Thanks and God Bless.

Off to College

Zack graduated in June (watch grad video if missed it)
We had a fun summer, that flew by. Zack started CSUF on August 26th and it's been non-stop since! Unfortunately the caregiver we hired to work for Zack, was not able to last minute, so that left "mom" going to college but it turned out great actually because so much happened those 1st few weeks of college. I was glad I was there. We ended up dropping a class that made his schedule much less stressful, we learned where everything was, found all the good eating places, visited disabled student services and academic advisement, looked into tech support services, went to career fair and Zack met a few people.

Now that he's been there about 6-weeks he's much more comfortable and getting used to his schedule (school & physical therapy) and homework.

We have found (2) fellow students (a Jr/Sr) to help Zack on T/TH so off he goes on those mornings "mom free" it's wonderful for both of us! Ha!

Sedona (Zack's service dog) is getting her education too and goes 4 days a week with Zack...she's doing her job well students and teachers seem to like her.

Please keep us in prayer there's always lots of things to juggle and new hurtles to overcome but I'm pleased to say the 1st few weeks of college life has been good to Zack.

Thanks for the continued interest in Zacks (change of life story).

Love, Amber

Zack "walks" to get diploma

Another one of those times when no words are necessary, I'll let the video speak for itself....
Zack decided last minute to do this and his classmates had no idea, he was nervous and it was hard to see but powerful in the end and we were all very happy he pushed himself, after all you only "walk" to get your high school diploma once, right!
